Does God talk to us today?

In John 10:27 Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.

Are you a sheep?

Do you hear His voice?

Do you follow Jesus?

I was in a meeting the other day, and in the discussion one of the participants made this comment. “You can’t see God, and you can’t hear His voice, but He’s real and He hears what you say, He knows what you are thinking, and He knows what you are going to do all the time.”

What do you think?

I think he’s right in one way. You can’t see Him, and you can’t hear His voice in the sense of an audible sound like when we physically speak to one another. But, the other side of that is that I believe you can hear His voice. Okay, let me clarify that for you before I am called a “nutcase”, or a “heretic”.  Do I hear His voice in actual words? No, I don’t hear His physical voice, but I hear His voice in the sense of His guiding me onto the right path when I stray, or knowing what He would say to me if I really could hear Him speak.  I guess that it’s because I have been walking with Him for so long that I know in my heart what He is going to say or how He is going to respond to what I am doing.

Think back to when you were a child and your Dad was there for you.  When you did something that you knew he would not approve of, did you know how he would respond or what he was going to say to correct you?  I did.  I knew he would take me aside, sit me down, and in his soft voice, he would gently explain to me what I had done, why it was wrong, and what to do the next time I found myself in that situation. That same thing goes for God. After all He is our heavenly Father is He not? He sits me down, in His own way, and gently guides me, through the Holy Spirit, to the pathway that I should be on. I hear Him through my mind and heart interacting with the Spirit.

So, the way I see it, you can hear His voice, and He does talk to us.

Are you a sheep?

Do you know His voice?

Spend time in His word.  Spend time conversing with Him in prayer. Spend time being quiet after you read or pray. That’s when you can hear it.  Our tendency is to read, or to pray, and then get on with the day, and we miss the quiet time when He can speak to us and refresh us or guide us.  Listen for His voice.  In time you will hear it.
